We recently completed the structural steel package for a single detached house destined for Calgary, Canada. Designed as a two-storey home built over a site concrete base, the building has a floor area of 570 m² and uses a welded steel column-and-beam frame, with color steel sheet cladding for the walls and roof. The package was manufactured in our workshop, given a shop primer, marked part by part, packed into export racks and loaded into containers for ocean delivery.
What the steel package includes
Steel columns and main beams forming the two-storey load-bearing frame
Floor joists and rim beams for each level
Horizontal wall girts that support the color steel sheet wall panels
Roof framing, purlins and supporting structure under the color steel sheet roof
An internal steel staircase connecting the levels
Connection plates, base details and porch/side-deck framing extensions

Workshop fabrication
Members were cut, welded and assembled in the workshop to the project's structural drawings. Columns, beams and girts were welded with their connection tabs and plates, then finished with a shop primer to protect the steel during ocean transit and site storage. Because a residential frame carries many small, repeated members, consistent welding and accurate hole positions matter just as much as they do on industrial structures.

Part marking before packing
Every member received its own part number and identification label before leaving the production line. Connectors and loose plates were grouped and wrapped separately so nothing goes missing on the way. This marking system lets the on-site crew identify each piece without tracing it back to the factory.
Packing and container shipment
Long beams were bundled in purpose-built export racks, short members and connectors were grouped by erection sequence, and the full package was loaded into containers for sea freight to Canada. Grouping members the way they will be raised on site means the receiving builder can unpack and erect level by level instead of sorting through mixed cargo.

From our workshop to a Canadian home
This project shows how a complete residential steel frame can be made overseas as a coordinated, numbered package and shipped to North America for local erection, paired with the color steel sheet wall and roof envelope supplied to the project specification.
